My Hobby

A little back story . . .

picture of a nintendo 64 console

When I was a child, I was first introduced to the Nintendo 64. I remember playing games like Turok, Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros., and many more games. Playing video games back then were completely different than they are now. With the Nintendo 64, instead of CD's, there were cartridges that were inserted into the top of the console. One of the weirdest designs that was implemented into the Nintendo 64 were the freakish controllers that players had to use. Obviously, we had to make do. As time went on as a child, my next console I started playing on was the Playstation 2. I remember playing the Madden with my dad every weekend. Sometimes, I got a hold of a game that I loved, a game that is not supposed to be played by an eight year old. There were more games that were out at the time like Spider-man 2 & 3.

Fast forward a few years and the legendary Xbox 360 came out. At this time, I'm around 12 years old. All I ever did, besides school, was play video games. As game engines and technology became more advance, the more content and quality games got. Video games like Call of Duty: Black Ops & Black Ops 2, Skyrim, Minecraft, and Skate 3 were my go to. There were many more games that I played, but those were the main ones at that time. I'd spend all my time after school playing games. Staying up late was a regular routine for me. I made a lot of friends online over the years and played with them all the time.

Now skipping to the current date, those friends are no longer in my life. All I play with now are my real life friends. Just a few years ago, I decided to build a gaming pc and did it pretty successfully. Now, my favorite games are Minecraft, Ark, Skyrim, and Halo. I don't get to play a lot here currently because I'm trying to focus on school and my family. My new favorite games are Ark, Halo, Minecraft, and Skyrim. You can learn more about them on the next few pages!

The real meaning . . .

person playing a video game

A lot of people think that playing video games is pointless and a waste of time. While I do understand their point of view, video games mean more to me than the average person. With that being said, I do not have a gaming addiction. I just really enjoy playing video games. Some people have different kinds of comforts and relaxations. For me, playing video games is my comfort. Now, this is not my only form of comfort because I still, at the end of the day, will always seek comfort in my wife and kids.

For those that oppose video games, they got to understand that us who play video games, this is our outlet. Playing games is a way out from this cruel and stressful world. I don't have to worry about anything when I'm exploring caves or fighting bad guys. Heck, even just chilling in Minecraft letting that nostalgic music just run through my veins, reminiscing about all the good and bad times I've had in this game when I was a child. There is no better feeling than nostalgia. Time flies by fast and you don't realize you're in the good ol' days until it's too late. So, go live a little---whether it's skydiving, binge watching shows, traveling the world, or even playing video games. Because while, in real the world, I am worried about dying resulting in my family becoming husbandless/fatherless, in the virtual world, I am stress free and have unlimited possibilites.
